Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between coaching and therapy?

Our clients tell us that they come to our practice because we are known for our solution oriented focus. Some of our clients who are seeking therapy come to us facing critical issues that have led to physical and/or emotional problems in their lives or the lives of loved ones. At FTA, all therapy is done face to face, and visits are usually weekly, at least at the beginning. Our clients who are seeking our coaching services usually contact us because they are looking to redirect "the compass of their lives", or in other words find a new direction and need some professional input and support in accomplishing their goal. Coaching client appointments may be face to face as well as telephonic or email. Coaching clients "sign up" for a series of sessions per month.

How long will I be coming to therapy?

Although occasionally therapy can be long term, family therapy is often brief, on average between 8-12 sessions.

How often are appointments scheduled?

Depending on your situation, appointments may be weekly, twice a week, every other week, or on an "as-needed" basis.

How do I select an appointment time?

We recognize that your time is important to you and our office hours are designed to allow for flexibility. You may prefer the same day and time each week or you may prefer to vary the day and time depending on your schedule and other life demands.

Evening appointments are available, but fill up quickly. Weekend and holiday appointments can also be arranged.

What is the policy regarding Confidentiality and Privacy?

Family Therapy Associates is mandated by HIPAA, the State of Florida and Professional regulations to follow strict regulations regarding client confidentiality, privacy and privileged information. In addition, it is our belief and our goal to provide an environment that is caring, non-judgmental, confidential and conducive to change.
