What is the MBTI and how does it work?
The
MBTI® (The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator) is a
well known and respected psychological assessment.
The MBTI® represents a model of personality
based on Carl Jung’s theory and provides the client
with an indicator of their preferences in personality
style. Originally developed during WWII, it has
continually been refined over the last six decades
through assessments on thousands of subjects and
is respected for its statistical reliability and
validity.
So how does it work?
By measuring responses to “personality trait preferences
questions,” the assessment delineates one of sixteen
possibilities for each individual. You may be wondering
if the score rates your personality as “good” or
“bad” or ?”better or worse” The answer to those
questions is a resounding NO!
The
MBTI recognizes value and gifts in all types. What
you do find out is amazing information about how
you (and others) “get energy from their world”,
how you go about organizing or processing information,
how you make decisions based on the information
gathered and how you act on it and prioritize it
in the outside world.
After taking the assessment and discussing
the interpretation, our client’s say that they find
value in how they use it to bring out the best in
themselves. They also are excited about how useful
it is to have this tool when they are involved in
family discussions (even heated ones) and dealing
with stressors in their work environment.
How can MBTI be helpful for
you?
Getting a “better read” on yourself
and those in your world will prepare you to respond
in ways that will make more sense, be more effective
for you and perhaps most importantly, change your
outlook on your world!
If you are wondering if you would
benefit from taking the MBTI, ask yourself the
following questions:
• Are you looking for new ways to understand and
respond to the important people in your life;
family, friends, and co-workers?
• Are you experiencing a life transition, a time
that you want to make changes in your life but
are not quite sure what direction to take?
•
Are you considering a new career and would like
some guidance to identify what you may be best
suited for?
• Are you a student
who would like to better understand your
learning style in order to improve your
grades in school and/or on standardized tests
or comprehensive exams such as the bar
exam or CPA exam?
• Are you struggling
in a relationship and would like to understand
your partner better and allow them to better
understand you?
One
more important point for you to know, the results
are most useful and productive when carefully analyzed,
interpreted and discussed with a qualified MBTI
administrator.
