Everyone
hopes that when they get married they will live
"happily ever after." However, the reality is
that one in every two marriages end in divorce.
For second marriages, approximately 60% end
in divorce.
But somehow, no matter how
common divorce may be, and no matter how many
people you know have been through a divorce,
when it is your divorce, none of that
matters.
If you are reading this page,
you are probably thinking about a separation
or divorce, in the process of a divorce, or
trying to "move on" with your life following
a divorce. If you have children you already
know that the situation becomes even more complicated.
At Family Therapy Associates,
we see many people who are struggling with the
many stressors that go along with separation
and divorce. Our clients tell us that therapy
helps them to move forward in a more positive,
useful way. If you are wondering if you might
benefit from professional help, see if any of
the following statements "fit" for you?
I am in shock; I can't believe that this is
really happening to me!
My self-esteem has been "shattered", I am
not
even sure who I am anymore!
I am feeling angry, isolated, depressed,
or revengeful
I am grieving the loss of my relationship.
I feel like a failure.
I am fearful of the future; worried about
finances, concerned about future relationships,
wondering if I will ever be happy again.
If you have children, there may
be
other questions you maybe asking yourself.
How will we (I) tell
our kids we are getting a divorce?
What is "co-parenting" and how do we do it
once we
are divorced?
How will I maintain a
stable environment for my kids while
we
are going through the divorce?
How will I be able to
separate how I feel about my
ex-spouse from how I need to relate to
him/her as my
child’s parent?
How will I be able to
balance my child's needs with my own
needs?
How will I help my
child/children get through the divorce
without causing them harm?
How can Family Therapy
Associates help?
We understand how difficult the process
of divorce can be.
We help individuals find positive ways to
move forward in their lives.
We help parents who are struggling with
the challenges of co-parenting.
We help single parents who are helping their
children adjust to the divorce.
We offer everyone, parents and children,
a nurturing and safe,
non-judgmental environment to share their feelings, concerns
and frustrations with
a professional
that is neutral and not emotionally
involved in the situation.
"Life belongs to the
living,
and he who lives must be prepared for
changes".
Johann Wolfgang von Goethe
